cLabs, the Core Developer of Celo Blockchain, Proposes the Use of OP Stack for Layer2 Development

According to Foresight News, cLabs, the core developer of the Celo blockchain, has proposed using OP Stack for Layer2 blockchain development. This decision follows a community-sanctioned governance vote last July that validated Celo's transition from the current Layer1 network to Ethereum Layer2. The team has now decided to develop Layer2 on OP Stack, the primary toolkit for developing chains in the Optimism ecosystem. Prior to that, the team conducted an eight-month evaluation and testing of various extension technologies and software packages, including Arbitrum Orbit, ZK Stack of zkSync, and Polygon CDK. The company plans to deploy the Celo Layer 2 testnet in the summer of 2024 following another community vote.
In its proposal, cLabs stated that Celo's transition to OP Stack-based Layer2 will focus on improving the network's performance while maintaining its unique features. Proposed improvements include reducing the block time from 5 seconds to 2 seconds and increasing throughput by 50%.
