On June 6, Musk tweeted, "In light of the U.S. President's statement on canceling our government contract, SpaceX will immediately begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft." BlockBeats Note: The Dragon spacecraft is a reusable manned/cargo capsule developed by SpaceX for NASA and other customers, and there are two main versions: Cargo Dragon, which is used to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS); Crew Dragon: Used to send astronauts to the International Space Station. Currently, NASA sends astronauts to the International Space Station and relies heavily on SpaceX's Crew Dragon. If decommissioned, NASA will lack a reliable U.S. manned space capability and will have to rely on the Boeing Starliner (which is just starting to enter service) or foreign space agencies. If the cargo mission is suspended, it may affect the station's supply and scientific experiments. The retirement will also affect the reputation and dominance of U.S. commercial spaceflight.
