Elon Musk called Donald Trump before posting an apology for having "gone too far" in his online comments. This move came after efforts by Musk and Trump's aides to ease tensions following a public spat. According to a source from the White House cited by Reuters, Elon Musk made a private call to President Donald Trump on Monday before posting a message on X saying that he regrets some of his comments on social media. The apology was posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday, stating: "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far." Trump then called the gesture "very nice," signaling a possible thaw in their public feud.

According to the New York Times, the apology was made after Musk had a private conversation with Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles on Friday. The talks aimed to find a way to ease the tensions between the two men, who have previously had conflicts on social media. The verbal sparring began last Thursday when Musk criticized Trump's Big Beautiful bill. Trump responded by downplaying Musk's role in his political success. The controversy quickly escalated after Musk even tried to link Trump to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In the following days, Musk indicated that he wanted to mend the relationship. After conversations with Wiles and Vance, he deleted several social media posts, including a post alleging that Trump's name was in government records related to Epstein. Despite Musk's efforts, Trump is reported to have told his advisers that he is not interested in talking to the billionaire and "is done with him." He reiterated the same message in press interviews. However, behind closed doors, teams on both sides are working to bring about reconciliation. MUSK TAKES ACTION TO SATISFY RELATIONSHIPS Musk seems to want to maintain peace, despite the fact that both have a lot to worry about. Trump threatens to cancel SpaceX's government contracts worth billions of dollars. Before the 2026 midterm elections, Musk, who is also one of the largest donors to the Republican Party, promised to contribute an additional 100 million dollars to Trump's outside political groups. Musk's knowledge of the inner circle of the government also gives him a lot of influence. Trump may not want to completely exclude Musk to avoid problems during his term in office, where former staff have written books about him, revealing some 'important' secrets.
