Recently, the TRON community held an in-depth discussion on the upgrade plan for the SELFDESTRUCT instruction during the 43rd developer meeting. Developers proposed a proposal compatible with Ethereum EIP-6780, aimed at optimizing the operating mechanism and execution costs of the instruction to enhance the network's security and interoperability.
According to the content discussed in the meeting, this upgrade proposal mainly includes two key adjustments: first, the SELFDESTRUCT instruction will completely remove the contract from the chain and transfer its assets to the specified address only when called in the same transaction that created the contract. In other cases, the instruction will only transfer the assets within the contract, while the contract itself will remain unchanged. Secondly, the energy consumption required to execute the SELFDESTRUCT instruction will be increased from the current 0 to 5000, a measure aimed at preventing the instruction from being abused and the potential denial of service attacks that may arise.
This upgrade proposal draws on the latest Gas cost updates from Ethereum, aiming to achieve a higher degree of compatibility with the Ethereum ecosystem. If this proposal is approved, it will bring several positive effects: contracts will be able to execute the SELFDESTRUCT instruction multiple times, more reasonable execution costs will further enhance the security and stability of the TRON network, while creating a more reliable development environment for developers.
This upgrade reflects TRON's determination to continuously optimize its technical architecture, not only committed to enhancing the performance and security of its own network but also actively seeking interoperability with other mainstream blockchain platforms. This approach helps to promote the collaborative development between different blockchain ecosystems, bringing more convenience to developers and users of decentralized applications. As this proposal moves forward, the industry will closely monitor its implementation effects and potential impact on the entire blockchain sector.
