Air India crash: Families of the victims are uneasy about the slow progress of the rescue efforts.

Gate News bot message: Last week, an Indian Airlines Boeing 787 passenger plane crashed, and the relatives of the victims or missing persons are feeling frustrated due to the lack of information regarding the cause of the accident and the slow progress of rescue efforts.

Investigators have only found one of the two flight data "black boxes", and the identities of most victims are still awaiting DNA testing. According to the Press Trust of India, the final death toll has not yet been determined, with 80 individuals identified through DNA samples and 33 bodies handed over to grieving relatives.

"We are expediting the DNA comparison process in order to hand over the remains to their respective relatives," said Dr. Rajenish Patel, an official at a local hospital in Ahmedabad, on Sunday. "We are making every effort to facilitate this process and provide an explanation to the families of the deceased."

Indian aviation authorities have been carefully examining the wreckage of Air India flight AI171 to determine why the flight lost power shortly after taking off on Thursday and crashed into a densely populated residential area in the western city of Ahmedabad. Of the 242 passengers on board, all but one were killed, and there are an unknown number of casualties on the ground at the crash site.

Students from BJ Medical College are having lunch in the dormitory cafeteria when a fuel-laden airplane crashes into a building and explodes. Many family members gather at the scene, anxiously searching for more details about the accident and the whereabouts of their loved ones.

A young woman in her 20s, Payal Tushar Thakur, stated that she is still waiting for news about her mother, who was working in the medical school cafeteria at the time.

"We are very poor, so it seems that no one cares about our situation," Payal said, her voice hoarse with agitation. "We are in shock, unable to eat or drink. We have lost our loved ones; who needs compensation now?"

Air India stated that it will pay approximately £21,000 (about $28,500) in compensation to the families of the victims and survivors. Previously, Air India's owner, Tata Group, had announced it would pay approximately £85,000.
