By attacking the Fed to influence policy, Trump may cast a "shadow of doubt" over his own nominee.

Lawrence Summers, who served as Secretary of the Treasury under the Clinton administration from 1999 to 2001, stated, "It is foolish for past presidents to publicly criticize the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve either does not listen or feels pressured when it does listen, which means it needs to prove its independence, implying that short-term interest rates will remain unchanged or even higher."
