On June 2, the Ethereum Foundation announced the reorganization of its core protocol development team and introduced a new name - "Protocol". The team will focus on scaling the mainnet, increasing data throughput (расширение Blob), as well as optimizing the user experience. The reorganization includes changes in team structure and management, with some members leaving the foundation. According to the foundation, this will accelerate the development of zkEVM and Layer 2, increase Ethereum's scalability, verifiability, and censorship resistance, bringing it closer to its goal of becoming a "world computer." 🌐
💬 Can the "Protocol" team really solve three key technical issues of Ethereum and benefit ETH?
The "Protocol" team has a good chance of addressing the three main challenges of Ethereum — scalability, data throughput, and improving user experience — but success will depend on several factors.
Scaling the mainnet and Layer 2: Focusing on zkEVM and Layer 2 solutions ( such as Optimism or Arbitrum ) is a logical step. The zkEVM technology allows for faster transactions and lower fees while maintaining security. Already, Layer 2 handles a significant portion of Ethereum transactions, and further development could increase the network's capacity by several times. If "Protocol" successfully integrates these solutions, it will make Ethereum more competitive compared to blockchains like Solana or Avalanche.
Data throughput (Blob expansion): The Blob expansion (introduced in the Dencun update in March 2024 )aims to reduce data storage costs for Layer 2. This may lower fees for users and increase network efficiency. However, thorough testing will be required to avoid node overload and maintain decentralization.
User experience: Improving UX is a critically important aspect, as high fees and the complexity of interacting with Ethereum deter newcomers. If "Protocol" simplifies interfaces and lowers barriers to use (, for example, through account abstraction or improved wallets ), it will attract more users and developers.
💬Benefits for ETH:
Successfully addressing these issues is likely to have a positive impact on the price of ETH. Scalability and reduced fees will increase the demand for ETH for gas payments, while the growth of the ecosystem will attract more decentralized applications (dApps) and users. However, there are risks:
Reorganization may lead to temporary delays due to the departure of key participants.
Competition from other blockchains remains high.
Regulatory restrictions (, for example, in the USA ), may affect the adoption of Ethereum.
In the short term, the price of ETH may remain volatile, but in the long term (2–3 years), if the "Protocol" keeps its promises, ETH could reach $7,000–$8,000 due to the growth of the ecosystem and institutional interest.
