Spanish bank BBVA suggests customers allocate 7% of their funds to cryptocurrency.

Spain's second largest bank, BBVA, has recommended that wealthy clients allocate 3–7% of their investment portfolio to cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin (BTC), depending on their risk tolerance. Philippe Meyer, Director of Digital Solutions and Blockchain at BBVA Switzerland, stated that adding 3% BTC to a balanced portfolio has helped improve performance without significantly increasing risk.

Since 2021, BBVA has implemented crypto transactions and will transition to active consulting by the end of 2024. By March 2025, the bank will be licensed to offer Bitcoin and Ether trading services in Spain. These features will soon be integrated into the mobile application.

BBVA's move comes as the EU tightens regulations on cryptocurrencies through MiCA, while most EU banks continue to avoid the sector. Santander is also considering issuing a stablecoin.
