The Sonic$S token airdrop season two will start on June 18th. This season is larger in scale, smarter in mechanism, and offers richer rewards.
The new rules introduce a more dynamic structure for users and applications, focusing on rewarding genuine and sustained participatory behavior within the Sonic ecosystem.
Whether you are a seasoned DeFi user or a developer building the next generation of on-chain applications, the second quarter offers you more ways to earn incentives and reasons to stay active.
💡Note: The first season's rewards will be opened a few weeks after June 18th, during which there will be a review to filter out bots and witch attacks, ensuring that rewards are distributed to real users.
User Section: Season Two Points System
In the first season, Sonic successfully attracted about 100,000 daily active users and formed a thriving DeFi ecosystem by incentivizing user participation through a passive points mechanism.
The second quarter will shift toward a structure that places more emphasis on fundamentals and sustainability. The key points of the update are as follows:
❌Cancel passive points
Holding only whitelisted assets will no longer earn points. The passive points mechanism, originally established to help new users get started quickly, has now been completely removed.
⚡Only reward active behavior
Users need to earn points by deploying whitelisted assets in the Sonic ecosystem, including participation in various DeFi activities such as DEX market making and lending.
With the start of the second season, "active points" will be abbreviated as "points", as passive points no longer exist.
Loyalty Multiplier
To encourage continuous participation and prevent "wool-pulling - exit" behavior, a loyalty multiplication mechanism is introduced:
The initial multiple is based on the performance of the first quarter, ranging from 1.0 times to 2.0 times;
Active behavior during the second season will dynamically increase or decrease this multiplier, with a maximum of 3.0 times and a minimum of 1.0 times;
Currently applicable only to EOA wallet accounts, with possible expansion in the future;
The loyalty multiplier will be visible after the MySonic page goes live and will continue to be used in multiple seasons to come.
💥Whitelist Assets
All whitelist assets from the first season remain valid in the second season, and more assets may be added as the season progresses.
📋 Second Season Distribution Mechanism
The reward distribution mechanism for the second season will be different. We will announce the final distribution method three months after the second season, including whether to adopt a ratio of "direct release" to "locked release."
Application Section: Gems System Season 2
Application competition is no longer just about TVL (Total Value Locked). This season places greater emphasis on sustainability, real income, and fairness.
The highlights of the update are as follows:
⛔ Prohibit Gems tokenization
The application party is no longer allowed to tokenize Gems, and violators will be immediately disqualified from this season.
But the application party can choose:
Implement a points incentive program independently;
Claim S tokens through Gems, distributed to users in the third quarter.
Incentive Weight
This indicator measures the proportion of S that was actually distributed to users in the first quarter from the Gems exchanged in the application.
For example:
If an application distributes 100% S to users, the Gems obtained in the second season will be 1x times;
If only 80% is distributed, then multiply by 0.8x;
The distribution must be completed before the end of the second quarter.
💰Revenue Score
In the first quarter, the focus was on increasing TVL while neglecting trading fees. In the second quarter, a new revenue scoring metric was introduced to reward applications that actually generate fees.
Only transaction fees generated from whitelist assets are counted.
The more income, the stronger the product market fit, indicating real value to the network, and the higher the rewards.
Encourage the incentive mechanism to shift towards real usage.
⚖️Categorical Weighting
The weighting multiples have been adjusted for different application categories to more accurately reflect their contribution to the value of the ecosystem.
📊Q2 Gems Allocation Formula
The share of Gems for each application this season will be calculated based on a new formula.
🎮Game Gems maintain the original structure and are not affected by changes.
First Quarter Review
The first season will launch on December 18, 2024, with the Sonic mainnet going live, aiming to promote early adoption. Users can earn points by holding whitelist assets (passively) or deploying assets in DeFi (actively). The application will use TVL as the main competitive metric to compete for Gems.
Throughout the season, Sonic attracted hundreds of thousands of users, with active users reaching 100,000, laying the foundation for the sustainability reward mechanism for the second season. The first season will end on June 18, 2025, and the second season will begin immediately after.
🗓️Claim Timeline
The claiming portal will be launched in the weeks following June 18, for reviewing and eliminating bots and witch attackers.
💧User Acquisition Mechanism
25% reward can be claimed immediately as S;
75% remaining will be minted into a tradable NFT, with a linear release over 270 days;
This NFT can be traded on Paintswap's secondary market.
If users choose to withdraw the locked portion early, a destruction penalty will be triggered;
NFT is valid for 6 months and will be destroyed if not claimed by the expiration date.
💎Application Distribution Mechanism
50% of the S obtained from the application can be claimed immediately;
50% remaining will be released linearly over 3 months.
If the Gems from the application have been tokenized, Sonic will provide a centralized frontend for users to claim them;
Users have 3 months to claim the rewards, otherwise they will be destroyed.
🎮Arcade and Shard users
Users participating in Sonic Arcade and users holding Shards will receive all rewards according to the same 25% liquidity + 75% locking rules.
