The London police in the UK have collaborated with law firms to launch an encryption asset recovery plan, primarily targeting cases that cannot be prosecuted criminally.
According to Deep Tide TechFlow news on April 5, as reported by Decrypt, London police have partnered with law firm Gowling WLG to launch a civil asset recovery scheme. This scheme primarily targets cases that cannot be criminally prosecuted, providing victims of Crypto Assets fraud and others with the opportunity to recover their assets.
Previously, the British police successfully recovered £520,000 (approximately $671,000) worth of stolen Crypto Assets for an 80-year-old man as part of a pilot project. The recovery operation was made possible by the update to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, which granted the police the power to freeze stolen digital assets.
Director Bríd Holden of Gowling stated that they hope to enhance the willingness of victims to report cases through this collaboration. The partnership will coordinate the recovery efforts between the police, victims, and their legal representatives to combat organized crime groups.
